The August New Customer Community Giveback: Small Hands Big Hearts United

Posted on July 10th, 2017 by Joe McCutcheon

This month, we’re talking about Small Hands Big Hearts United (SMBHU). We recently launched a new initiative aimed at furthering our commitment to making the world a better place. In addition to the eco-friendly, healthier products and practices embedded in our day-to-day business operations at Enovana Green Cleaning, we’ve also started giving back to the communities we serve whenever a new customer joins the EGC family.

Each month, we rotate a new charitable organization into our program, where we give five dollar donations for each new customer cleaning we do. In July, we’ll be donating to Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill, an incredible place for rest and healing for families of children undergoing long treatments and hospitalizations at nearby UNC Children’s and Duke Children’s Hospitals.

For the month of August, we will turn our donations to another local charity with unlimited potential fueled by the dreams of children, Small Hands Big Hearts United (SHBHU). Founded by a dynamic mother/daughter combo, Anita and Isabella Pease of Cary, SHBU exists to nurture the instinctive compassion that children hold for others and the world around them. The Peases started the organization in late 2013. While watching the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan on the Philippines, Isabella turned to her mother and asked, “What are we going to do to help the kids who live there?” Her mom replied, “Well, what would you like to do?”

Isabella’s answer was the first of many missions performed by the young Cary resident and a large group of friends that’s been growing ever since. For their first project, SHBHU raised more than $600 for relief efforts in the Philippines, as Isabella and friends knitted hats, made dozens of bracelets, and sold them to Triangle locals looking to help support a higher purpose.

As the organization has grown, Small Hands Big Hearts United has engaged in other love missions like its Socks for Syria program, sparked when a Small Hander heard about a company donating a pair of shoes to Syrian children for every pair sold in the USA. That Small Hander asked, “Won’t they need socks?” and another mission was born.

In addition to these direct fundraising efforts to help those in need, SHBHU has also coordinated with area charities to encourage volunteerism among children, creating “standing missions.” The organization has partnered with Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, Food Bank of North Carolina, and Oak City Outreach to initiate volunteer programs suitable for young children under the watchful eyes of teen ambassadors and adult mentors.

In many ways, these are trying times we live in, and you can’t help but think that the best way to change the world is through our children. Enovana Green Cleaning salutes the children and leaders of Small Hands Big Hearts United, the recipient of our August New Customer Community Giveback!
